Individuals born with XY chromosomes (commonly AFAB) face a 1 in 7 chance of developing breast cancer during their lifetime. Meanwhile, those born with XX chromosomes (commonly AMAB) have a significantly lower risk, approximately 1 in 800. However, breast cancer is not determined by chromosomes—it is driven by genetics and hormones. This means that those on prolonged hormone therapy can also be at risk of developing breast cancer.

And yet.

Breast cancer awareness campaigns overwhelmingly target cisgender women, leaving trans individuals underserved by critical healthcare messaging. As a result, trans people are less likely to receive the education needed to recognize early signs of breast cancer, increasing their risk of late detection and potentially life-threatening outcomes.

It’s time to put that right.

Which is why we are hosting a gender inclusive breast cancer awareness seminar. This event will cover the information that is relevant to trans, non-binary, and other gender diverse people. We will also provide information that is not often included in breast cancer awareness campaigns as it doesn’t impact cis women. So whatever your gender or chromosomes, join us at the Queer Emporium on Wednesday the 26th of March at 6pm, and get a handle on your health.
