The Queer Emporium may have closed its venue in August 2026, but its flagship mixed-bill stand up night, Cardiff Queer Comedy, has found a new home: The Canopi!
On 23rd October, our regular MC, Leila Navabi, will host a line-up of wonderful queer acts, including:
Leila is a writer and comedian from South Wales. In 2023, she made her Edinburgh Fringe debut with a sellout run of her musical comedy hour Composition. Described as 'the actual future of comedy' (LMAOnaise), her television and radio stand-up credits include BBC New Comedy Awards 2022 (BBC), Live at Aberystwyth Pier (BBC), Stand-up Sesh (BBC), Stand Up in My House (BBC) and The Leak (BBC). She is bilingual, with Welsh Language credits including Ffyrnig (S4C) and Ni y Nawdegau (BBC Cymru). She has provided tour support for Jessica Fostekew, Laura Smyth and Nish Kumar.
Katie's chatty, irreverent style is like spending an evening with your funniest mate. And two wines down the subjects get personal, but she will take you by the hand as she overshares, deep dives and brings you all along laughing.
Katie has been tour support for George Lewis, and Kiri Pritchard-McLean in 2025 and Rachel Fairburn in 2024. She was Shortlisted for BBC New Comedy Awards 2025, and also writes on topical panel show What Just Happened? for BBC Radio Wales. Katie features in series two of BBC Radio Wales' show, The Learners, and had her TV debut on Welsh show, Noson Lawen, in 2025.
Emily Bampton is described as "a hilariously relatable punch to the gut" by Daily Info, and LMAOnaise says she "always leaves an audience happier than she found them". She's been featured on Next Up Comedy, soared through to the Semi-Final of Cocoa Butter Club's Trailblazer Competition 2022, is the Quantum Leopard Champions of Champions 2023, was shortlisted for BBC New Comedian2022 and 2024 and was named by The Mainstream as a 2024 One to Watch.
Emily has performed at Edinburgh Fringe, Soho Theatre, Club Cumming NYC, and alongside the likes of Luisa Omielan and Sophie Duker.
Emily began running her own monthly night Comedy in Ruins in 2024, it has quickly gained a cult following and regularly sells out. Having had to move venues twice in less than 2 years to accommodate its growing audience.
